i spent today playing "scavenger hunt: office style v.2008" ... i was all over the office pulling gifts and grants and other files for our audit. i had a much better sense of where everything belonged than last year playing v.2007, however of course there were still a few mystery items that were not were they belonged.
tomorrow is my last official day as office manager, on friday i will become the program manager and will move into my very own office down the hall. yippee!!

Job Update
I wanted to update you all on my current plans. As you know, I have been planning on moving back to the east coast this summer.
I have had a bit of change of plans in the last month, as I was offered a new job within the Community Foundation (read: new job, same place). Starting May 1, I will be promoted from Office Manager to Program Manager. I will be working on many of the same projects that I was already involved with, such as Scholarships and Passport Club (ski club that brings in our operating income)... and I will also be taking on the Nonprofit Library and Granting (read new skills: librarian & giving out $$!!). It is an ideal progression from my work with the organization over the past 1.5 years and I am very excited about it. We also recently revamped our website, so check out yvcf.org for more about what we do.
Of course, I was also really looking forward to moving back east and being closer to many of you... but that is just going to be delayed for a wee while. My plan is still to move to New England within the next year, so we can all still look forward to that. It just means you all have more time to come out and visit!
In the meantime, I am planning to be in Vermont/Cape Cod for about 2 weeks in July so I hope to see many of you (hello fairlee!) then.

fresh daffodils bringing spring into the apartment.
too many smartwools that all look the same.
taking a little time to focus on the future.
all in all- a fabulous weekend. plenty of relaxing time, reading, spring skiing, dinner out with ken and carol, making banana bread and hummus, cleaning, live music, sipping lemonade on the deck, lots and lots of free books, movie time, working towards future plans, open windows, warm breezes.

25 Tidbits
So on facebook recently there has been a fad going around where people write a "note" with 25 facts about themselves. I decided that maybe facebook wasn't the place where I would share such info, but the concept still sounded like fun. So I thought my blog might be a more appropriate place to share some random personal info with friends.
Enjoy!
1. i am somewhat obsessed with coupons. and reusable grocery totes.
2. i consistently listen to chris pureka, michael franti & spearhead and NPR while driving.
3. this would be my 15th summer at Aloha Camp if i had not taken any summers off.
4. my rabbit, cocoa, lived to be one week shy of 12 years old. i'm pretty sure he could have been in the guiness book of world records.
5. the two places/experiences that have most influenced my life have been Aloha and NOLS(new zealand).
6. the only time i have been hospitalized was when my entire crew team caught the noro-virus on our flight to florida for spring training.
7. i had a crew of imaginary friends that appeared when i was about 3.5 years old, in the bathtub one night. they lived in the ravine behind our house and were named: pop, bingo, spaghetti the boy & spaghetti the girl. i believe pop (or maybe spaghetti the boy) wore a leather jacket.
8. i have always had a vivid imagination and spent much of my childhood playing with dolls, creating and building not just dollhouses but entire towns, gardens, etc for the dollhouse folk. yes, the town did include a general store, bakery, school, doctors office, and trolley. they also had a school bus which would drive back and forth between my house and my best friend jenna's. sometimes we even brought them to school and set up classrooms inside our desks. our age at that phase is irrelevant information.
9. the best vacation(s) i have ever been on was sailing in the british virgin islands in 1999 and 2002.
10. ben harper, martin sexton & ani difranco will forever be my top three musicians. favorite albums by those artists are "welcome to the cruel world", "black sheep", and "imperfectly", respectively.
11. instead of doing the whole shebang for the high school junior prom, i went mini-golfing with two of my best friends and then attended the last hour of the prom.
12. in 1994, nancy kerrigan was my hero. i promptly began figure skating in 1995 and fully expected to participate in the 2002 salt lake city winter olympics. my dreams were shattered when i realized that i would need to be successful at nationals in order to qualify.
13. in 2000, i started a happy list.
14. in 2006, i started a "purposeful joy" plan which involved writing down something that i had done each day to bring happiness to myself.
15. i have finally realized that i simply do not like beer.
16. in fifth grade, i surpassed nathan gershaneck on the reading chart in mr. baginski's classroom. this made me the #1 reader in my class.
17. i love sleeping. my ideal amount of sleep is 9.5 hours per night... unfortunately i realized this perfect quantity when i was getting 4-6 hours per night during crew season in college.
18. i was given the "smiley" award at day camp when i was little. this has continued to be my most commented upon/rewarded attribute for all of my life.
19. i am an only child and was the only grandchild on both sides of my family until i was 8. perhaps because of this, my friends mean the world to me.
20. true & valid excuses i have used for being late for work:
a. the guard dogs got out.
b. one of the alpacas was sick.
c. there was a cattle drive on highway 131.
d. there were elk in the road.
e. the snow was drifted across the driveway.
f. i got stuck behind a logging truck.
21. i love slippers. i have three pairs that i wear regularly. but one favorite pair.
22. i have always wanted to pierce my nose & get a tattoo on my back. most likely, i will never do either.
23. i have been blessed to make quick, close, lifelong friends on all of the adventures and paths of my life... the fact that this has not been the case in steamboat tells me that this is not the place for me.
24. the longest i have gone without showering is 32 days.
25. my favorite thing to do in the morning on weekends is read in bed.

a tad overdue....
now that my computer is back in action, i can finally post some photos that i have been meaning to put up! my parents came to visit in mid-december for an early christmas. it was my dad's first trip to the alpaca farm, so i had fun showing him the animals as well as introducing him to ken & carol (our landlords). we had a jam-packed few days of downhill skiing, ice skating, nordic skiing, cutting down & decorating the tree, opening presents & enjoying an early holiday, hiking to the yurt, going to the hot springs and just enjoying spending time together. it was fabulous!

"wherever you are, it is your friends who make your world."
this weekend i managed to see friends from all of my "worlds." friday night we went to a sam bush concert in steamboat and were joined my nick, john, dana, and courtney... i worked with john & nick at vista verde back in the day, and nick now works for steamboat ski patrol while john is back at vista verde for another winter. dana & court went to vassar with me... we were not particularly close but did have a class together during my last semester. they found out about vista through me and are now in their 2nd and 3rd seasons up there! they are both awesome and when i did finally befriend them during my final semester, i wished i had known them better throughout college... so this has been a fantastic twist of fate.
on sunday i welcomed a new neighbor to town. alysha, who i have known through aloha for many years, has taken a ranger position at steamboat lake state park. she'll be around for only a few months unfortunately, as the job is only winter seasonal, but its fabulous to have a dear friend in the area!
on monday i met up with kate in silverthorne for a little shopping & catchup &vermontpelier loving. kate has been in my life since preschool and has been a fabulous friend all along. we are the last two of what was once a five-person crowd of my high school friends living in colorado. we try to connect every couple months at least.
so, while three of those four worlds (aloha, vassar, montpelier) are thousands of miles away, i am blessed to have a few transplanted friends to laugh & dance & hug here in colorado.

why hello, my long lost friends.
or perhaps i myself am the long lost friend.
i broke my computer charger a few weeks ago & am waiting for a new one to arrive via ebay from hong kong! brett's computer has taken a turn for the worse and will barely turn on.. plus the keyboard isn't working. so we are without steady technology at home :). plus he's taken it to indiana so now i'm really without!
so, just writing from work to say HELLO and i hope everyone is doing well & has enjoyed a fabulous holiday season. i miss you all, and i'm sorry i haven't been a good bloggie. i promise once my hongkong charger arrives, if it works, i will get some photos from the holidays and winter in steamboat up and running on here. this morning i had a herd of elk about ten feet from my front door. it was incredible. it is another snowysnowy winter in colorado.
i have been busy in the best of ways- the past week or so has been a nonstop camp-fest! we rang in the new year in leadville with a midifest-style dance party and lots of fun. then two of my dear camp friends, kat & sigel, came up for a weekend of skiing and soaking... in very cold temps! sigel and i skied on monday when it was -21 degrees. then last night i had dinner with another camp friend who lives in boulder. it has been wonderful to see so many familiar and loving faces. i love visitors!
back to work.
love to all!

merry christmas!
i hope you all had a merry and wonderful christmas. i had a nice quiet christmas with brett. our friend nick came down for the night and we had a feast with our landlords, ken & carol, their children, and another friend, anita. i felt thankful to be surrounded by such lovely and kind people! it made celebrating a third christmas away from my family so much easier.
my computer has gone kaputz so i haven't been able to be much of a blogger. i promise to post photos of my christmas, and my early dodd family christmas, soon!
sending hugs and love to each of you.

Must Be All That Granola...
Kudos to the homeland for being the healthiest state in the nation for the 7th out of 8 years. Credit is given to the high public health spending, low obesity rate, low child poverty and violent crime rate, and more. My theory is that there is such a high value on the quality of food in Vermont- from the abundance of farmers market and local food to the high number of health food stores and co-ops.
Howard Dean said it best:
"While I ran for president I often said that America would be a better place if it was more like Vermont. I still firmly believe that to be true." -Dean
